Hans Nienhuis, PhD

Dr. Hans Nienhuis has a background in immunology, with specific training in autoinflammation and amyloidosis in all its forms. He is the coordinator of the Amyloidosis Center of Expertise, which is a collaboration of various departments within the University Medical Center Groningen that are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of systemic and local amyloidosis. His research focuses on early recognition and treatment of patients with amyloidosis.
In recent years, Hans Nienhuis, internist-immunologist, has been trained by Hazenberg in the field of amyloidosis. In July 2018, after more than 33 years of dedication to patients with amyloidosis, Hazenberg transferred his task as coordinator of the Expertise Center to Nienhuis. The Expertise Center was then transferred to the Internal Medicine Department, where Nienhuis and two other internists now focus on the care of patients with amyloidosis.
