Robert A. Kyle, MD
Robert A. Kyle is a Hematology specialist and Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Kyle completed his graduation from University of North Dakota and MD from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, followed by MS from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Dr. Kyle completed Residency from Mayo Clinic Minnesota and Research Fellowship in Hematology from Tufts University School of Medicine.
Dr. Robert Kyle has catalogued patient histories, archived blood samples and observed a vast number of people with plasma cell proliferative disorders from more than 60 years. His methodical examination of the data allowed him to classify these disorders into various groups like benign monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance, intermediate smoldering multiple myeloma and severe multiple myeloma.
Dr. Kyle also launched the dysproteinemia group at Mayo Clinic, which is now the strongest and largest such team in the world. In 1974, the National Institutes of Health awarded Dr. Kyle and his colleagues a program project grant to study monoclonal gammopathies which consisted of several closely related projects conducted by collaborating investigators.
