Laura M. Dember, MD
Laura M. Dember is a Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine where she is a faculty member in the Renal-Electrolyte and Hypertension Division and a Senior Scholar in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She received her medical degree from Yale University followed by residency in Internal medicine from University of Pennsylvania and fellowship in Nephrology from Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Dember is a member of the Penn multidisciplinary amyloidosis program that evaluates and treats patients with all types of amyloidosis.
Dr. Dember conducts patient-oriented research including mechanistic studies and clinical trials in chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). She has particular interests in hemodialysis vascular access and interventions to improve clinical outcomes in end-stage renal disease. Her research is funded by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Dember is Principal Investigator for the Data Coordinating Center of the NIDDK Hemodialysis Novel Therapies Consortium which is conducting early phase clinical trials targeting ESRD-associated inflammation and cardiovascular disease, and she is the Principal Investigator for the “TiME Trial”, a large, pragmatic cluster-randomized clinical trial being conducted through the NIH Health Care Systems Research Collaboratory.
